Butterfly House - Mid Century Modernism

This project is to demonstrate another one of my 3 x briefs provided in my 'Interior Concept Design' course for Learn Squared. This time I present to you my response to the Mid-Century Modernist brief.
-
The brief calls for a Mid-Century Modernist living room to be designed for the head of a secret intelligence agency. My response was to create a circular room with a simple ‘butterfly’ roof gesturing towards the center of the space. Here we find a conversation pit flanked by ‘the bosses room’ and the fireplace, two anchoring posts in the design that create asymmetry. The kitchen, dining, library all encompass the space and sit within raking walls that further emphasize the direction towards the pit. The stair from the level below acts as a divider between kitchen/dining areas and the main living area, creating a separation of space without the need for partition walls. To enhance the feeling of wealth and customization, furniture, planters and joinery are built into the architecture. The aim as always is to keep all my design decisions clean, minimal and intentional.
